New touch and pen computer Interface

Technology Illustrated has a article on a new touch and pen interface that can be used together for a much better total control of a computer.

From the post, “The interface’s most interesting features come out when the two types of interaction are combined. For example, a user can copy an object by holding it with one hand and then dragging the pen across the image, “peeling” off a new image that can be placed elsewhere on the screen. By combining pen and hand, users get access to features such as an exacto knife, a rubber stamp, and brush painting.”

iPad – Not 4 me

iPad – Not 4 me

If you are a Apple fan boy, I hope you enjoy the iPad and all its proprietary software. It is just not for me.
I like a device that the stuff I buy for it is mine to use as I see fit and move it to a different device if I feel so inclined. Try that with your iPad.

I also like to save free things I download an give a copy to a friend. Try that with you iPad.

I also like to replace the power source when it fails. Uh, the battery for example. Try that with your iPad.

I also don’t like to to be restricted to what I can and can’t use with my products. Mother Apple tells you what is good and not good for your device. Enjoy the ipad.

Oh, have you priced the apps for the iPad? Hmm, the apps for the iPad are twice as expensive as the same app for the iPhone. Mother Apple again telling you what you can and can’t have with the iPad.

Oh, the books that you down load for the iPad are 1.5 to 2 times more expensive than they are for the Kindle.

I rest my case.

Pogoplug – Cool device

Pogoplug – Cool device

I am always looking for new cool gadgets that make my Internet and computing life easier. Pogoplug fits that description perfectly.
This little device connects to your home network via standard network cable and lets you share all you selected files over the Internet. It seems I am always at a friends house or some away place that I need some file from my home computer and this is the answer. Pogoplug has a USB 2.0 interface so you can add a hard drive or a USB stick if you so desire instead of the hard drive in your computer.

Security is always a big question when sharing files. Pogoplug uses HTTPS for secure password protected access over the Internet. iPhone users have a app that they can download to access your Pogoplug. Cost is $129.00 from the Pogoplug web site. A quick search did not find a cheaper price for this new version.

One problem is it is pink, but you can hide it behind your desk or get out the paint brush.

Radio Control Pirate Ship

Radio control gadgets have always been on my cool stuff list. A RC pirate ship is something I never expected to see in a catalog or even expected any one to build. This one based on the description, sounds like it should provide hours of fun for all.

Directly from the sellers web site:
“Authentically detailed ship cruises using a powerful motor and twin propellers. Water-resistant transmitter controls forward and reverse speeds, and left and right turns. Ship even has a cannon with light and sound effects that are triggered from the transmitter.”

Plus the cost is reasonable at $79.98. It is on my list of items to purchase when the mortgage is paid. <grin>
