A very close friend of mine found out she has lymphoma cancer and I am dedicating this week’s newsletter to her. A coverage of a number of medical related sites.
If you need or want to know where major health outbreaks are take a kook a the HEALTHmap. It shows you where more than 50 diseases have been reported around the world, who is reporting and how ‘hot’ an outbreak is based on the number of reports. Drill down by content and city or narrow by disease and read what has been reported in the last 30 days. This site is by the Children’s Hospital Informatics Program (Boston) and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology.

I am a fan of Yahoo and all their specialized searches, site info, tools, widgets, etc. I spent some time on the tech section reviewing product info and reading tech news, tech shows, blogs, and the dummies guide to HD camcorders. Anyway, much can be learned from visiting this specialized Yahoo site.

While we are talking about Yahoo’s specialized sites, check out Yahoo! Education. It offers a handy selection of searchable reference materials to help you find the information you need. Look up the definition of a word in the Dictionary, find its synonym in the Thesaurus, or translate it into Spanish. Search for facts and information in the Encyclopedia, find country and regional maps and flags in the World Factbook, and much more.

One more thing on Yahoo, as if you haven’t heard Microsoft is try to buy Yahoo. Personally, I hope they don’t. I enjoy reading the independent reviews and news from Yahoo. If they become a part of Microsoft I feel their objectivity will disappear.
